CARIBOU — A Monticello man has been hired as a staff reporter at the Aroostook Republican & News. Although he had been writing freelance articles for the past two months, Theron Larkins’ first official day on the job was last week.
A 2012 graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a BA in English and a minor in history, Larkins, 25, has experience in newspaper reporting dating back to an internship at the Houlton Pioneer Times following his graduation from Houlton High School in 2007. His grandmother, Kay Trickey, was a career journalist, retiring from the Pioneer Times in the 1990s having worn many hats at the weekly newspaper from photographer, to columnist, reporter and later news editor.
Except for a brief time in Florida, Larkins has spent his entire life in Aroostook County. In addition to his newspaper experience, he has also worked at the Houlton Higher Education Center, the Movie Galley and Cleary Law Office.
Larkins’ interests outside of the workplace are music, sports and politics.
At the Aroostook Republican, Larkins will share editorial responsibilities with veteran staff reporter Natalie De La Garza and sportswriter Kevin Sjoberg. He can be reached at 496-3251 or via email at republican@nepublish.com.
