Tens of thousands of visitors will flock to northern Aroostook County this summer to celebrate their Acadian heritage and attend hundreds of family reunions; it is a safe bet that at some point, they will get hungry and visit local restaurants and eateries.
“It is important that we receive them professionally and courteously so that they feel welcome, want to come back here, and want to tell all their friends and neighbors what a great place we live in,” said Assistant to the Maine Regional Coordinating Committee (MRCC) Dona Saucier.
With this mind, the MRCC of the Congrès Mondial Acadien 2014, in collaboration with New Brunswick Tourism, will offer a professional table service training on Monday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at the MRCC Office in Madawaska; the office is now located on the second floor of the Madawaska Outpatient Center on the corner of 11th Avenue and St. Thomas Street, next to St. Thomas Catholic Church.
“This training is dedicated to improving the technical skills in professional table service,” Saucier said in a press release. “The training will review a variety of topics, from understanding the principles of table service and customer needs, understanding the specific technical aspects of serving foods and beverages, to understanding the stages of the sale and suggestive selling.”
In addition to these topics, attendees will learn the proper use of equipment in customer service, the different types of table arrangements, plate service techniques, utensil and dishware protocols, clearing protocols, and hygiene and safety protocols.
Food service industry employers, employees and those wishing to be food service employees — or even those looking to polish their food service skills — are encouraged to attend the workshop, which is $11.30 per person; those wishing to attend the learning event will need to RSVP by Friday, Feb. 14.
