Tax aid services available
The AARP Tax Aid Service will have a site in Caribou and Presque Isle this year. These sites are staffed with trained volunteers who use the latest tax preparation software to prepare public participants personal federal and state tax returns.
The goal of this community service project is to proved free tax preparation, including free electronic filing of tax returns, to low and middle-income groups with special attention to those age 60 and older. Neither business returns nor complex personal returns will be handled. This year we will also prepare Maine State Returns for the Property Tax Fairness Credit (PTFC). Participants do not have to be members of AARP to take advantage of this service.
In Caribou the site is located at the VFW building and hours will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 4 to April 15, 2014. In Presque Isle the site is located at the UMPI Campus Center building in room 118 (181 Main St.) and hours will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays from Feb. 1 to April 12, 2014.
