FORT FAIRFIELD — A local woman has been charged following a domestic disturbance that occurred on Jan. 21.
“On Jan. 21 around 4:15 p.m., the Fort Fairfield Police Department responded to a Borderview apartment for a report of an adult male who had been stabbed during a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to find Kary Carney, 45, of Mapleton, had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen,” said Chief Bill Campbell, of the FFPD.
Campbell said Carney alleged that his girlfriend, identified as April McCausland, 42, of Fort Fairfield, had inflicted the wounds during a fight.
“Carney was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance where he was treated for his injuries and remained overnight. Carney is expected to make a full recovery,” said Campbell.
McCausland, who fled her residence with her 2-year-old son, was located at a nearby residence and arrested without incident.
“McCausland was charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony. Bail was set at $5,000 cash,” said Campbell. “McCausland’s son was placed with a family member.”
At presstime, McCausland was not listed as an inmate at the Aroostook County Jail and is believed to have made bail.
Sgt. Shawn Newell, of the FFPD, is the lead investigator, with assistance from Campbell and the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
McCausland was given an April 22 Caribou Superior Court date.
