PRESQUE ISLE — At least two people are homeless, following a fire Monday night at a Turner Street residence.
“At 7:32 p.m. on Feb. 3, the Presque Isle Fire Department responded to 40 Turner Street for a reported structure fire. On arrival, the on-duty crew found heavy smoke and flames coming out of a second-floor bedroom window,” said Deputy Chief Rich Wark, of the PIFD.
Wark said the crew confirmed that all occupants were out of the building, then made a fast attack on the fire.
“They were able to contain it to the room where it started, with some minor smoke and water damage to the rest of the house,” said Wark.
The home is owned by Sandra Archer.
“There were two other people at the home at the time of the fire. They were able to spend the night at the home of a relative,” said Wark.
Wark said there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The PIFD had 21 firefighters on scene. Mutual aid was provided by Mapleton Fire Department, with one engine and a crew to help at the site of the fire, while the Caribou Fire Department sent an engine and crew to cover the station. Emera Maine was also notified and a crew secured the power to the building. Crown Ambulance also assisted.
