Former Loring airman publishes first of three memoirs

An Air Force pilot with Loring ties has recently published the first book of a trilogy on his Air Force experiences, including his time spent at the former Limestone air base.
The book “Flying the Line, an Air Force Pilot’s Journey” covers retired Lt. Col. Jay Lacklen’s active duty years from 1972 to 1979, most of which was spent at Loring Air Force Base.
“The Loring AFB main gate lay at the end of a long, straight road that gave me a glimpse of what was coming as I approached the base,” Lacklen wrote on page 125. “Huge lumbering tankers and bombers filled the local airborne traffic pattern above the forest, and suddenly everything was in noisy motion, on the ground and in the air.”
