Mindy Libby hopes that when her clients leave her shop that they feel revitalized and that their appearance reflects their style.
Libby is the owner of Reflections Salon in Island Falls. She opened the salon in January after working in Houlton shops as a cosmetologist for three years — two and a half years at Modern Beauty and six months at Lisa’s Hair Designs.

“I chose to open a shop in Island Falls because it is closer to my home and it is the only other salon in town,” explained Libby.
Reflections Salon is located at 14 Houlton St. in Island Falls behind the Unique Boutique. The shop is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment from 3-6 p.m.
Reflections Salon is derived from patience and hard work through plenty of renovations.
“My shop was once an old arcade behind the general store,” explained Libby. “Over time, it turned into a ‘man cave’ so when I started renovating it was a huge undertaking.”
Libby’s father, Dave, along with her brother Travis, owner of TLibb Construction, restored the room and created a relaxing atmosphere.
“I lease the room from Peter Connelly (owner of Sam’s River Cafe) and he supplied me with some building materials and he was very happy with the outcome of the space,” said Libby. “My mom and sisters helped me with the  painting and decorating so it has truly been a family affair.”
“I want the atmosphere to be laid back and fun,” said Libby. “A kid-friendly salon.”
Reflections Salon uses Chi and Matrix products for colors and styling, along with retail sale. Libby offers men, women and children’s haircuts, colors, perms, facial waxing, up-dos for special occasions, manicures, pedicures and unique nail art.
“My goal is to offer tanning, more nail services such as gel, acrylic and veneer,” she said. “I’m in hopes to have another person join me in operating my shop especially in doing nails.”
Reflections Salon also offers gift certificates.
Libby studied cosmetology at Empire Beauty School in Caribou.
“I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser, but it took me quite a few years to pursue my dream,” she said. “I’ve done prom up-dos and wedding up-dos on my friends and family before and they were a lot of the reason I finally pursued this career. I knew eventually I wanted to open up my own shop, but didn’t know when it was going to happen. Then I happened to run into Peter at the River Cafe and he was more than excited to set me up with a place.”
