Ricker Rumblings

Lois Downing, Special to The County

A lovely sunny Sunday day here in Aroostook County. As I’ve said many times, “We are blessed.” The County people have been busy this week as usual. Many are attending the basketball tournament in Bangor at the new Cross Center.

I have been enjoying reading Calais Advertiser newspapers, passed onto me by a friend, Barbara Conlogue, who gives them to me after she has accumulated many copies. I appreciate reading about my home town and I especially like the column of Dorothy Johnson, who writes the recipes and usually has a story to go with it.
We lost our lovely Doris Hogan a few days ago, who died at Madigan Nursing Home. Doris lived here a long time and was visited by her many relatives and friends. Our sympathy is extended to Joe and Harriet, her son and daughter-in-law who live here at the plaza and to Vicki, her daughter who came frequently.
There is still a lot of ice outside so be careful where you walk. We had a really nice potluck last Monday, Presidents Day, held in the community room. We had pasta, tuna casserole, seafood chowder, beans, fried chicken, homemade chili, plus a variety of desserts. It was a nice way to see your neighbors and enjoy a meal.
This column is short this week but did want to mention the subject of angels: Maybe angels don’t have wings and maybe they don’t fly but we believe they do exist somewhere up on high. Keep well and if you haven’t had a flu shot it is not too late.
“Happy Birthday” to all who are celebrating a birthday. It seemed everywhere I was this week, someone was celebrating a birthday. Helen Folsom of Hodgdon fell and hurt her foot. Sorry about that, Helen. See you soon.
