The Mars Hill and Blaine Winterfest will take place on March 7-9. Friday will kick off with basketball games from 4-6 p.m. between Mars Hill and Easton first and second grades.
The Rotary turkey dinner will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at a cost of $7 pre-sold or $8 at the door. At 7 p.m., the Mars Hill Community Players will present “Groovin’ Thru the ‘60s” at the Rec Center. $5 admission charge.
Saturday will start off with the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast from 6-9 a.m. Cost is $5 per plate. A bake sale will be held in the CAHS lobby from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Happenings at the high school on Saturday include a Penny Carnival ($5), Cake Walk ($1 per play), Shrine Klowns, Hotdogs and Baked Potatoes, Cribbage Tournament at 9:30 a.m. ($5 entry), Lucky Leprechaun 5K at Fort Street ($5 individual or $20 family), Helicopter rides ($40), and BINGO (noon to 12:30 p.m.).
Events will continue at Bigrock with night skiing, Pork Tenderloin Dinner ($12), Snowshoe Hike, Live Music, Fire Twirling and Fireworks.
“Groovin’ Thru the ‘60s” will be performed on Saturday night at 6:30.
Sunday will see a Breakfast Buffet 8-10 a.m. ($10) and Bigrock Invitational Youth Ski Race at 10 a.m.

Rotary news
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. Special guest speakers were members of the Mars Hill FFA. FFA Club President Carly Grass, Vice President Jordan Canney and Secretary Whitnie Bradbury spoke of the activities the club participates in each year.
The FFA members are helping with the After The Bell program as well as the local recreation teams. They have also taken part in the Homecoming Parade, the Presque Isle Light Parade, state FFA competitions and the Northern Maine Fair.
With over 70 members, the Mars Hill FFA Club plans to encourage more to become active in the group. Other future plans include starting a middle school chapter and partnering with other local groups in local projects.
They are also working at getting a greenhouse up and running. They have already received a $15,000 grant to fund the building and are now working at raising funds to cover expenses for the first three years. The greenhouse will be used to grow vegetables for use in the school cafeteria as well as for local senior citizens.
After The Bell
After The Bell has been busy with the running club. They will be participating in their first 5K on Saturday, March 8. Please come out and cheer them on as they have worked hard for this. This race begins at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Street.
After The Bell also attended the opening ceremony of the biathlon. The children have stayed busy this winter sliding, snowshoeing and more.
On Wednesday, March 5, the running club will meet after school. It’s the last running club this session.
On Saturday, March 8, After The Bell is hosting the Lucky Leprechaun 5K. Registration is at Fort Street at 9 a.m., with the race beginning at 9:30. Runners and walkers are welcome. Cost is $5/person or $20/family. All proceeds to benefit After the Bell. Participants are encouraged to wear green! Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed leprechaun.
After The Bell is also hosting a moonlit snowshoe hike at Bigrock on Saturday at 6 p.m. over a one-mile groomed loop. There are limited snowshoes available for use. Please bring flashlights or headlamps. There is no cost for participants of this event.

Upcoming events for the week of March 5-11 include: Wednesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Wii Bowling Challenge at 9 a.m. and Residents Council at 2 p.m. Thursday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m. Friday will feature March Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Music by The Countrymen at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Karaoke with the Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will feature the APC Church Service at 3 p.m. Monday will feature Nail Beautiful at 10 a.m., Karaoke with Larry and Larry at 1:30 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. BINGO
The William Cousins Post 118 of the American Legion in Mars Hill hosts a Bingo Night every Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Legion building on Silver Street. There will be cash prizes and concessions.
