No morning paper today, a first in many years of delivery by an excellent woman carrier. Must be the below-zero weather affecting her vehicle. She has until 7 when we may call the newspaper office, but she usually makes it right at 4:30.
Still puzzling over the location, I check around outdoors once more, just in case the paper got misplaced, but still nothing. As I go to call the newspaper office, I see the light on the answering machine flashing. “Hi, BB, just a little flash from your cousin Bud: the Houlton boys made it to the State finals for the basketball tournament and they’re playing this weekend, and I shall be watching them. They may be playing at the same time as the Oscars, but I’ll be watching them. Have a nice day. Love ya, ‘bye.”
For me that was a perfect send-off from Bangor straight to nostalgia over the team during my high school years when I never missed a home game and even went up to some in Presque Isle. However, in the present, I feel like calling to see what he has planned for food during the game. I could make some popcorn and pay him and his family a virtual visit.
