BOWLING GREEN, KY & MAINE – Vaughn E. Fitzherbert, 91, passed away on March 3, 2014, at The Medical Center.
Mr. Fitzherbert was born in Presque Isle, ME, on September 27, 1922, the son of the late Percival R. Fitzherbert and Leta A. Barker Fitzherbert. He lived for many years in Fort Fairfield and Easton, ME.
Mr. Fitzherbert was a veteran of WWII. He served as a sergeant under General George S. Patton in the army’s 95th Infantry Division “Iron Men of Metz”, 377th Infantry Regiment, Company C and was wounded in battle on November 19, 1944, in Metz, France. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Purple Heart. On March 5, 2014, a flag was flown in honor of Mr. Fitzherbert’s military service.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia White Fitzherbert of Bowling Green, KY; one brother, Fay Fitzherbert of Mars Hill, ME; two sons, Larry Fitzherbert of Fort Kent, ME, and Richard Ray Fitzherbert of IL; four daughters, Carla Albert of Fort Kent, ME, Caryn Cyr of Glenburn, ME, Kathy Palm of San Diego, CA, and Jo Lita Shackelford of Bowling Green, KY; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home in Bowling Green, KY. Private interment will be in Bowling Green, KY at Fairview Cemetery in the section for military veterans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society in Vaughn Fitzherbert’s name.
