PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams involved in the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department fifth- and sixth-grade league began play recently and summaries of some of the contests are as follows: In boys’ action, the Thunder bested the Clippers, 33-24, behind Braedon Sargent’s 21 points. Nate Willett added eight for the winners, while Sam Beaulieu netted a three-pointer en route to an eight-point performance for the Clips.
The Bulls squeaked out a 31-27 victory over the Heat as Jake Bonville poured in 19 points to lead the way. Ricky Goupille scored 12 to pace the Heat.
The Thunder topped the Celtics, 40-14, with Sargent tossing in 21 and Jude Mosher seven to pace the victors. Gavin Akeley and Colby Bonville scored four each for the C’s.
Jake Bonville and Colby Buckley scored 17 and 12 points, respectively, in the Bulls’ 37-30 win over the Celtics. Colby Bonville had 14 in the loss.
Chance Bragan and Jacob Devine scored 10 points each in the Clippers’ triumph over the Heat. Noah Flynn had 11 and Zack Fletcher 10 for the Heat.
The Clippers managed a 27-23 win over the Bulls behind Beaulieu’s 11 points. Jacob Bonville’s nine points led the way for the Bulls.
The Heat stopped the Thunder, 28-15, with Fletcher and Flynn totaling 10 points each for the winners. Willett had eight and Corey Estabrook seven for the Thunder.
Beaulieu scored 14 points and Bragan 13 in the Clippers’ 38-25 win over the Celtics. Colby Bonville had 11 points and Akeley six for the Celts.
The Bulls rallied late to down the Thunder, 38-36. Jacob Bonville scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback. Buckley added 12 for the Bulls, while Willett and Sargent both hit double digits for the Thunder with 18 and 12, respectively.
The Heat bested the Celtics, 35-28, behind Flynn’s 13-point effort. Goupille and Fletcher netted 10 each in the win, while Colby Bonville had 12 for the Green.
It took overtime, but the Thunder was able to collect a 24-21 win over the Clippers. Sargent had 20 points for the thunder and Beaulieu and Bragan eight and seven, respectively, for the Clippers.
The Heat downed the Bulls as Fletcher had 12 and Flynn 11 to lead the scoring. Jacob Bonville scored 12 and Jacob Smith six to direct the Bulls’ offense.
The Thunder came through with a 36-27 victory over the Celts with Willett scoring 18 points and Mosher chipped in with 10 to key the attack for the Thunder. Colby Bonville was high scorer for the Celtics with 11 points, while Akeley had 10.
For the girls’ Alana Legassie fired in 24 points, 10 which came in the third quarter, as the Lynx rolled over the Liberty, 44-19. Elise Nelson and Meg Casavant had eight each in the victory, while Abbie Yarema led the Liberty with 10 points.
The Storm stopped the Sparks, 33-21, with Taylor Guerrette scoring 18 points and Paige McHatten notching eight more in the win. Lizzy Nadeau and Kacie Chapman scored nine each for the Sparks.
Nadeau posted eight points and Chapman netted six more as the Sparks bounced back to beat the Liberty, 20-15. Anna Trombley scored nine in the defeat.
Legassie and Casavant teamed up for a combined 35 points as the Lynx defeated the Storm, 39-20. Legassie had 18 and Casavant 17. Guerrette’s 16 points led the Storm offense.
The Storm rebounded to stop the Liberty, 30-12, with McHatten and Guerrette scoring 12 each in the triumph. Hattie Bubar scored six for the Liberty.
Legassie tallied 21 points and Casavant had four more as the Lynx beat the Sparks, 37-11. Izabelle Higgins had four for the Sparks.
The Liberty earned its first win of the year by nipping the Sparks, 24-22. Bubar scored 10 and Rhylee Kinney six for the Liberty. Nadeau had 11 in the loss.
Legassie had 30 points in a 47-9 Lynx win over the Liberty. Casavant had nine and Elise Nelson six to add to the winning offense. Trombley scored five points for the Liberty.
