Transforming health care:
Patients as partners
On Monday, March 31, Maine Quality Counts and its partners will present free health care town hall meetings throughout Maine to discuss how patients and providers can “choose wisely.”
John Santa, MD, MPH, is the medical director of “Consumer Reports Health” and represents consumers in multiple venues across the health care industry. He plays a major role in the consumer “translation” activities related to the Choosing Wisely campaign.
Health care is a top concern for many Americans. “Consumer Reports” is working with Maine Quality Counts to help everyone choose wisely about their health care decisions. Dr. Santa will discuss why we need to engage in conversations with our health care providers about tests and procedures that may be ineffective, unnecessary or needlessly risky. Already the Choosing Wisely campaign has identified more than 250 common tests and procedures as sometimes unnecessary.
Dr. Santa will be presenting live at Maine General Medical Center’s Alfond Center for Health, Education Pavilion with live-stream webcast out to the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
