NEW SWEDEN, Maine — On Tuesday, March 25, at 11:30 a.m., officials with the New Sweden Covenant Church will hold a Covenant Café Reunion lunch.
For eleven years the church sponsored a lunch for residents of New Sweden and the surrounding communities every other Tuesday, September through May.
“People came from as far as Presque Isle and Fort Kent to enjoy a good meal and good company,” said Pastor Dan Clayborne in a press release.
In 2012, due to a number of factors, the members of the church reluctantly decided that they could no longer continue this mission.
Since then, many people who regularly attended the lunches have told church members how much they miss these get-togethers. As a result of these comments, church officials have decided to hold one more lunch featuring one of their most popular meals — baked potatoes with a variety of toppings and chili. There will also be Swedish waffle cookies for dessert. This event is open to anyone who wants to attend.
This lunch will also be a fundraiser for the church with a suggested donation of $5 per person; the church is located at 40 Westmanland Road in New Sweden.
