Eagle boys reach finals in volleyball

The Aroostook League girls’ and boys’ Div. II volleyball tournaments were played last week, with the Washburn girls and Easton boys capturing titles.
In Friday’s girls tourney played at Washburn District High School, the Beavers went 7-2 in pool play and defeated Fort Fairfield in the finals, 27-25 and 25-10.
Behind Washburn in Pool A was Ashland (5-4), Van Buren (4-5) and Limestone-MSSM (2-7). Trailing Fort Fairfield in Pool B was Wisdom (7-2), Easton (3-6) and Hodgdon (0-9).
Joan Overman of Washburn was the tournament MVP. Also making the all-tourney team were Parise Rossignol of Van Buren, Hannah Stratton of Ashland, Francesca Armstrong of Limestone-MSSM, Taylor Derosier of Hodgdon, Logan Bubar of Fort Fairfield, Kylie Carter of Easton and Melanie Bellefleur of Wisdom.
The boys’ tournament took place Saturday at Fort Fairfield High School. Easton went 8-0 to lead the way in Pool A, followed by Limestone-MSSM (5-3), Washburn (4-4), Fort Fairfield (3-5) and Katahdin (0-8).
In Pool B, Ashland had the best record at 9-1. Central Aroostook and Wisdom were both 7-3, Hodgdon and Greater Houlton Christian Academy were both 3-7 and Van Buren went 1-9.
In the championship, Easton bested the Eagles, 25-9 and 25-12.
Hunter Turner of the Bears was the MVP. Joining him as all-tourney players were Drew Sotomayor of Easton, Kenny Irving of Washburn, Caleb Daigle of Fort Fairfield, Grier Osterman of Limestone-MSSM, Shey Lane of Katahdin, Anthony Mazzacco of Hodgdon, Aaron Holmes of GHCA, Paul Rioux of Van Buren, Nicholas Belanger of Ashland, Dustin Pryor of Central Aroostook and Justin Pelletier of Wisdom.
The Div. I tournaments are this afternoon, with Caribou hosting the girls’ tourney and Presque Isle the boys’ event.
