My dad and I were going to help on the barn because it is his storage. So we hopped in to the truck and on the way we saw a deer. It started to rain.
When we got to Papa’s house, it stopped raining, but we stayed in for a little bit. We talked and talked. I said, “Can we get to work?” But we didn’t have nails. So Papa, Dad, and I had to go to town and get some. It took about 16 miles to get to town and back. I didn’t want to go so I stayed with Johnny and Grammy. An hour later, Dad and Papa had the nails and then I said, “Now, can we get to work?”
Then Papa said, “Yes,” so we got to work. Two hours passed, and I was getting thirsty. We had a drink, and it was back to work. It was getting dark out, so we set up some lights so we could see. We worked and worked. It was 10 p.m. when all of a sudden, I hear an “Aaaawwww.”
I didn’t know that I banged my dad’s thumb. That was the end of that day, and I felt sad.
