On Tuesday, February 25, the student body of Caribou Middle School had a very special experience sought after by many. They got to Skype with Senator Collins.

Just being in the audience was a privilege alone, but eight lucky students got to ask Senator Collins a question. These questions were compiled by the student body of CMS.
My question for Senator Collins asked her about the path that led her to becoming a senator, and what other careers she had in mind as a child.
Her answer sounded to me like many of us. She told me that she wanted to be something different every week. She went on to explain that she had wanted to be a ballerina, librarian, dentist, and many other jobs.
As for the path to becoming a senator, she told me that she was inspired by her parents. Both her mother and her father were very active in her community, and later her father became Senator, and her mother became Chair of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees.
Senator Collins also talked about her biggest role model, Senator Margaret Chase Smith, former Republican senator of Maine, and how much she inspired her to become a U.S. senator.
This Skype call with Senator Collins was an amazing experience and I am honored to have been able to ask Senator Collins a question during this assembly.
