Estabrook collects Hodgdon’s Principal’s Award

Valerie Estabrook, a senior at Hodgdon High School, has been selected to receive the 2014 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Estabrook is the daughter of Cathy and Wade Estabrook of Hodgdon.

Estabrook’s honors and awards are many. She has been chosen as Student of the Month each year of her high school career. She has made Honor Roll or High Honor Roll every quarter of her high school career. Estabrook has represented Hodgdon High School each year at the Houlton Rotary Club Luncheon for Outstanding Students. She has been nominated for attendance at a leadership conference, Dirigo Girls State and an English Leadership Camp. She has received her Academic Pin from the school and the Academic Excellence in Health Class Award.
Estabrook has been active in many school activities. She has been an officer in her class or the Student Council all four years. This year, she is president of the Student Council and of the National Honor Society. She has been a Peer Helper, student tutor, a member of the Aroostook Substance Abuse Prevention Committee and a member of the Envirothon Team.  In addition to all of these school activities, Estabrook is active in the community and in her church participating in benefit dinners, church dinners, community clean-up days, charity walks, blood drives, and the Veterans’ Day Breakfast. She has worked at McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and a local dairy bar as well as being a very reliable and dependable babysitter to a number of families.
Estabrook’s interests are many and include soccer, volleyball, youth group through her church, dance, swimming, music and politics. She has played soccer and volleyball for the school for several years and served as captain of both teams her senior year and captain for volleyball her junior year as well.  Her greatest interest is her family. She is often seen with her sisters, brother and parents at a variety of community activities.
Estabrook, Principal Mary Harbison, and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 5 at 12:30 p.m.
