Cheryl and Peter Connelly arrived back in Island Falls just as the last big snow storm of the season ( we hope) hit the area. They returned with a van full of furniture to be used in the new addition to their home just as soon as the weather cooperates.
Island Falls’ town meeting was Saturday, March 22 and a public supper preceeded it at the municipal building at noon. I hope you all came and voted and enjoyed a home-cooked meal.
Since the new snowstorm, I have been having a slightly harder tine getting out to the bird feeders. I had to take my trusty shovel out to make a path.
The snow had been packed so hard with the blowing wind it was a bit of job to get a lot of it out of my way. Needless to say, the little birds, big birds, and squirrels were some glad to see me out there paving the way to the cedar tree and the birdfeeders. It certainly didn’t take long for them all to eat up every thing I put out for them — even the peanut butter and lard mixture. It’s fun to watch the gray squirrels hang head down by their toes on the feeder and on the tree branch and regardless of the chickadees flitting around them.
I am still seeing three deer that come every late afternoon for their apples and cut-up bread chunks. Seems as though they wait in the woods near the barn and when I leave they arrive and make short work of it all. Lately, I have had some grass showing and they find stuff there to eat and munch away at the new stuff growing there — saw them at it the other night when I looked out a nine and there they were pulling at what ever they could find and having a grand time.
Just a reminder that the Island Falls senior citizens will be having their next meeting on March 20. A potluck dinner will be served at 11:30 in the common room at Woodland Heights and this will be followed by the business meeting.
So, all you senior citizens, bring your favorite cooked meal and join in the fun of being together.
