PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Organizers are thrilled with the response to the first annual Frozen Motor Mayhem event held March 15 at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds.
The event featured snowmobile racing in various categories, including: stock, modified and a 120cc kids’ class.
“This was a vintage snowmobile racing festival, complete with food vendors, a swap meet and more,” said Rick Guerrette, NMFA board member and one of the event organizers.
Participants traveled from all over the state and Canada to take part in the first-ever snowmobile-racing event at the fairgrounds.
“We had people from Turner, Lewiston, Auburn, Bangor, Waterville and elsewhere. We had about 85 sleds either on display or racing,” said Guerrette.
“Michael Morris of Turner was the big winner of the day, winning three of the races with two different snowmobiles. He took home $1,250 in prize money,” said Lynwood Winslow, NMFA board member and race organizer.
Racers competed for about $4,000 in prize money. In addition to racers, many spectators turned out to watch and cheer on their favorite contestant. Milder temperatures and light snow set the mood for the day, as sleds made their way around an Indy-style race course in the infield in front of the grandstand.
