Dear Mrs. Wiley, You are so nice. You care about kids, and I think you should hear us out.
Your smart cookies should be able to play on Mt. Mill Pond because it will be more fun than the playground. The playground is fun in the summer, spring, and fall, but in the winter the big snow mountain is there for a reason; the reason is so kids can have a winter present from Mother Nature.
For example, we can dig with friends or we can slide and roll. We think we would get more exercise than the playground. We’re getting bored on the playground. Every day it is the same thing.
Kids should be able to slide on the big hill because they get physical exercise, which helps their brains to keep going and get fresh air. Plus, most of the stuff on the playground is summer stuff. In the winter, if you go on the monkey bars, you fall. The rock mountain is very slippery. Just the wiggly bridge is slippery alone.
Climbing the big hill gives kids a way to have fun, but you could play, too. We could show you how to build something or you could enjoy the view, but you don’t have to. You could build a snowman, and we could get some exercise and fresh air. You can get lots of exercise and fresh air on Mt. Mill Pond. You can roll down it or make snow tunnels or forts to go through or little paths. Exercise is good for the brain, plus it helps you write and read.
Kids can have fun and still stay safe. They just need to follow these rules: Have fun, watch your step, and be careful. Please consider the kids using the big hill. There should be safety rules about the hill, like if you were to slide down the hill, slide on your bum. Do not slide on your face, your belly, or your back! Also, don’t go behind the hill. Kids can play safely. We could put a fence on the hill, and we could have two slides in the front and back.
You are thinking kids might fall off and hurt themselves on a piece of ice. Really, Pre-k students can get hurt and whine, but third graders don’t whine. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders don’t whine over a piece of ice. We’re old enough to know to be careful. Sliding on the big hill is good for kids. For example, students need fun too, and you want everyone to have fun. Remember when you had fun? Kids need to like school, and their job is to do that. It gives our heart more muscle, and we are big enough to go on the hill.
Kids should be able to slide on the big hill because it gives kids a way to have fun in the winter. For example, kids can build snow tunnels, roll down the hill, or slide. All of these activities mean kids will be getting lots of exercise and fresh air which are good for your brain. Oxygen helps your brain, and building muscles will help you do yourschool work.
We should play on the hills. That would be fair, and we can play on Mt. Mill Pond. It should be that way, and yes, it should. That’s it. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Third Grade Students
