WASHBURN, Maine — A light turnout has town officials considering reducing the number of hours polls are open during elections.
“We only had 43 voters turn out, with only a handful before noon,” said Town Clerk Lisa Mette. “We’re discussing possible changes to polling hours for future elections — adjust them to later in the day, to better serve community needs.”
There were no challenges for this year’s vacancies, with the majority seeing incumbents returning to their municipal seats. Candidates selected by voters during the March 17 election included:
• Incumbents Daren Churchill and Frederick Thomas retained their council seats;
• Perlin Buck will return to his position on the Water and Sewer District board; and
• Three seats on the SAD 45 School Board went to incumbents Cherri Fitzpatrick and Karl Saucier Sr., with newcomer Amy White appointed to the third spot.
