WASHBURN, Maine — A stolen vehicle was recovered and three men have been charged, following a traffic stop in Washburn on March 18.
“I’d just heard on the radio about a stolen vehicle out of Caribou and decided to go on patrol. Shortly after leaving my office on Main Street, I saw a vehicle speeding through town. I stopped the vehicle and ran the plate, which came back as the stolen vehicle from Caribou,” said Chief Roy Guidry, Washburn Police Department.
Guidry said when he stopped the vehicle — a 2003 Mitsubishi — as it headed north on Main Street, there were three occupants inside. The owner of the vehicle reported the car was taken from a Caribou residence the night before.
“There were three adult male occupants: Chad Peterson, 22, of Caribou; Scott Ozio, 40, of Woodland; and Kevin Nibby-Goodridge, 32, of New Sweden,” he said.
Due to the number of people involved, Guidry received assistance from Trooper Andrew Levesque of the Maine State Police. The chief also was assisted by Sgt. Paul Vincent, the investigating officer with the Caribou Police Department.
“Peterson was driving and was given a ticket for speeding, as well as one for possession of drug paraphernalia. Ozio was summonsed for drug paraphernalia also,” said Guidry.
Nibby-Goodrich was transported to the CPD, where he was charged with unauthorized use of property.
Guidry said drug paraphernalia and other items were seized from the vehicle.
“A substance was removed from the vehicle and is currently undergoing testing to determine what it is. Once the results are back, additional charges may be brought,” said Guidry.
Peterson, Ozio and Nibby-Goodridge each are scheduled to appear in Caribou District Court on May 8.
