For students needing to enroll in courses they need to complete program requirements, now is the time to view and select courses for upcoming university summer and fall semesters. Registration dates vary according to university, with most campuses opening registration to the public in April.
Students may earn a degree from any of the University of Maine System campuses at the University College at Houlton. Courses in education, computer information systems, health and human services, business, nursing, library science, counseling and the liberal arts are all part of the summer and fall schedules. Courses are offered on site, online and via interactive television and videoconference.
Students also can attend classes at sites in Caribou, Madawaska, Southern Aroostook Community School and Eastport. Summer sessions typically run for seven weeks.
In addition to courses, University College at Houlton offers students a full range of support services. Center advisers provide career counseling and assist students with financial aid applications, course registrations, book orders, computer access and more.
Chuck Ames, director of University College at Houlton, encourages those who are thinking about taking a course or exploring degree programs to contact the center for an advising session.
“Summer is a great time to take classes,” said Ames. “The shorter sessions allow students to get ahead or catch up and lighten their course load during the fall and spring semesters.”
