Holmes wins solo award
The Houlton Junior and Senior High Show Choirs competed this past weekend in the state Jazz Festival in Ellsworth, but did not place.
“Both groups performed wonderfully, but their scores weren’t enough to place this year,” said director Jason Anderson.
Noah Holmes won an outstanding musicianship award for his solo with the high school production of “Songs from the Band Journey,” and the high school show choir picked up a Gold Award, for all categories scored in the “excellent” range.
“All in all, a terrific group of students to take to a state festival,” Anderson said. “I’m always proud of their poise and confidence in their performances, and I’m honored to be their director.”
Upcoming events include Band-O-Rama, May 18, 7 p.m. at the HHS Auditorium; Small Ensemble Night, May 22, 7 p.m. at the auditorium; and ChoralFest, May 28, 6:30 p.m. at the auditorium.
