HOULTON, Maine — The Ark Animal Sanctuary in Houlton will receive an emergency grant of $2,500 from The Humane Society of the United States. The grant will assist in rebuilding efforts after a March 12 fire killed 16 cats and destroyed the sanctuary’s new building.
Ark representatives, community supporters and animal welfare advocates from around the state are have offered assistance and are focused on rebuilding.
According to Ark spokesperson Lorraine Monfils, cash donations and supplies including cat food and litter are most needed at this time.
