SINCLAIR — Former Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Commissioner, Roland “Danny” Martin announced last week that he is running for State Representative in District 150, which includes the communities of Frenchville, Grand Isle, Madawaska, St. Agatha, Van Buren, and the townships of Cross Lake and Sinclair.
“I’ve been asked by several friends and supporters to run for this House seat,” Martin said. “The St. John Valley needs someone representing them in Augusta that has experience and institutional knowledge.”
“I know from past years, having served in both the Maine House and Senate, and as Governor Baldacci’s IF&W Commissioner, that people in Aroostook County and particularly the St. John Valley need someone who will speak for them, who can work within the legislative system, and who will represent them with knowledge of the issues as they pertain to northern Maine,” said Martin.
Martin, a Democrat, is also the former county administrator for Aroostook County, and town manager of Frenchville and Madawaska. “The opportunity to serve the public in local, county and state government has uniquely prepared me for this challenge.”
Martin said that due to declining population, Aroostook County has lost several legislative districts over the past 20 years.
“More than ever it is imperative that we send someone to Augusta that has full knowledge of the legislative process,” he said.
Rep. Ken Theriault of Madawaska who now holds this seat is termed out for reelection to the House.
