PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center SkillsUSA chapter attended the state conference March 13-14. The trip got off to a rocky start because of a snowstorm, but the group finished with great success. The SkillsUSA organization is very grateful to adviser Amy White and PIRCTC director Tim Prescott for supporting them in their competitions.
This year, 17 students came home with medals. A total of six students earned gold, seven students earned silver and four students earned bronze.
First-place winners were Mitchell Ayotte in masonry, Natasha Kinnear in architectural drafting, Keegan Ennis in technical drafting, and the team of Blair Bailey, Hannah Guerrette and Hannah Stoutamyer in career pathways showcase in education.
Silver medalists consisted of Karson Eaton in masonry, Emma Kinney in T-shirt design, and the team of Clarissa Buck, Carter LaPointe, Alex Michaud, Hanna Postell and Joseph Patenaude in quiz bowl.
Local bronze medalists were Bailee Robichaud in photography, Chris Carroll in job skill demonstration, Kate Leavitt in pin design and Jaylee Farley in employability skills.
PIRCTC also won two group awards — the Jeff Small Spirit Award for the school showing the most enthusiasm throughout the conference and the Community Service Award for having the best community service project.
In addition, three students will serve as state officers for the 2014-15 school year. Those students are Bailee Robichaud, Bridgette Carrier and Tyler Ayotte.
