To the editor:
Due to the recent termination of Paul Prosser from the head custodial position, I am compelled to write this letter.
In a letter to the School Board dated March 26, Paul had made a request to be on the agenda for the next School Board meeting so that he could stand before you and explain exactly what happened on the night in question. However, instead he gets a certified letter from Superintendent Hammer stating that he is forbidden to set foot on school property without permission.
Now I ask you, what terrible crime has Paul committed to render such a harsh punishment? Paul realizes what he did was wrong, but the punishment does not fit the crime. Paul was called into the superintendent’s office and he told the truth. He would like the chance to defend his character and integrity and put an end to all the rumors floating around town. It seems as though anyone who has given 26 devoted years to this school department should have a chance to redeem himself, given the fact that in those 26 years, he has not once been given a warning or reprimand for anything.
Paul would like school board members to know he is very sorry for what happened. One can only hope that whoever they hire for this job will give it the same dedication and pride as Paul has. I highly doubt it.
