NEW LIMERICK – Kenneth L Wetmore, 89, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Bangor. He was born July 2, 1924 in Houlton, the son of Bertram and Rosina (Shaw) Wetmore.
Ken and Louise lived the past year in Bangor but had previously spent summers at Drews Lake and the winters in Hawaii. He worked as an optician for 57 years. He loved guns, building canoes and square dancing. He was an Eagle Scout, a registered Maine Guide, and loved the outdoors, canoeing, fishing, hunting, trapping, climbing Mt. Katahdin and trips down the Allagash River. Ken was involved in countless activities: Boy Scout troop leader, YMCA Indian Guide, tree farmer, the Houlton Community Band, and various gun clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise (Hay) of Drews Lake; sons, Dale of Oregon, Neal of Bangor, Joel of North Carolina, Carl and Linda of Florida and a daughter, Teri and Gene of Hawaii.
Friends may call 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Wed, April 16 at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, with Malcolm Hare officiating. (Malcolm is a lifelong family friend and was a member of Ken’s Boy Scout Troop.) A spring interment will be in the New Limerick Cemetery.
