The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the “Couch to 5K” program with runner enthusiast Chris Rines.
The eight-week training will begin on Saturday, May 3 at 9 a.m. at the Gentle Memorial Building.
Each session will include a warm-up, a group run and a cool down. Participants will be given “homework” assignments for the week.
Rines has been running for nine years and has run every distance from 100-meter to full marathons. He ran for Caribou High School and the University of Maine Presque Isle.
He has a B. S. degree in athletic training from UMPI and currently works for County Physical Therapy.
Cost for the program is $20 per person and the department must have at least six individuals registered for the program to be held.
To register or for more information on any of the activities listed, call the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department by April 30 at 532-1310.
