There is nothing more rewarding than being a member of the National Honor Society.
The NHS is far more than just academic success; scholarship is just one of the four very important pillars that all members should clearly exhibit. Although academic excellence is very important, all members of the NHS were selected based on their demonstration of service, leadership and character, as well.
For me, character is definitely the most important of the four pillars. While high school can get very stressful, it is extremely important that members always treat others with kindness and patience. A negative attitude gets you nowhere in life, while a positive one can get you anywhere. Members set an example for all of their peers, an example that everyone should strive toward.
The fact that your teachers recognize you (for having great character, leading your peers, and serving your community) is beyond gratifying. I am thankful for all of the places that NHS has taken me, and I am very proud to be the president of the Ashland chapter.
