Easton students make a difference a penny at a time

With the help of all of the students of the Easton School Department, the Easton NHS chapter was able to raise money for the state and regional service projects.
To raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, the Easton NHS sponsored a “Penny Drive” at the elementary school offering an ice cream sundae party to the classroom collecting the most coins. The third-grade class was the winning classroom and was treated to ice cream and all the toppings served by some of the NHS members.
The junior and senior high students had a fierce “Penny War” competition with the Grade 8 class becoming the victors. However, the real winners of both events were the veterans who are benefiting from the donated funds. The Easton chapter is pleased to announce they were able to donate $600 to the efforts of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Last October, the NHS sponsored the first of two fundraisers for Make-A-Wish, the state service project.  The first project was a Disney-themed Costume Day. On Oct. 31 each student wearing a costume was asked to donate to Make-A-Wish. In March, the NHS sponsored “Pass-the-Hat.” During a break between the winter carnival events, hats were passed around the bleachers for donations. With the help of these two fundraisers, the NHS was able to donate $211 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
