Up There Woodturners of Aroostook County has a new name, Northern Maine Woodturners.
Founded in 2010 by a small group of local artisans, our membership has grown to approximately 30 expanding outside Aroostook.
The “mission statement” is to share and teach the art of woodturning to anyone who is interested in the process. A grant was received to purchase two lathes and tools to facilitate our mission. One lathe is housed at Hodgdon High School’s shop building. This allows the students to explore woodturning in a safe and structured environment. As needed, NMW provides instruction and demonstrations.
Meetings during the school year are held at the Hodgdon shop building at 6:30 on the first Wednesday of the month. Summer meetings are when we visit various members’ shops.
NMW is a local chapter of the American Association of Woodturners and has a Facebook page and website. For more information contact Paul Porter at 532-3702 or Susan Riley at 694-2233.
