We are always looking for better ways to improve our shelter and improve the lives of our cats and dogs for the time they are with us.

NEW CAT BEDS — Cats at the Central Aroostook Humane Society in Presque Isle are enjoying some new Kuranda beds, as pictured here. Shelter officials say more are needed to be able to outfit each cage so each animal has a comfy place to sleep and play.
Over the years we’ve acquired Kuranda beds for several of our pet cages, donated by pet lovers.
The Kuranda beds are made in the USA from a company in Maryland and have been around for many years. We have had some of the beds donated in the past for our inside dog pens.
Recently the company has focused their attention on making the shelter cat cages more comfortable and efficient. These cat beds are heavy duty vinyl fabric, chew-proof and are very easy for shelter staff to clean. The cat beds provide soft, orthopedic comfort and even have room for the cat’s litter box to fit underneath, so they have more room to move around.
I stopped by the shelter recently and saw firsthand how wonderful these beds are. Only eight out of the nearly 50 cat cages had the Kuranda beds, but almost all of the kitties were sleeping or playing on their raised bed. Our shelter website www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org has the link to donate one of these amazing beds and our hope is that eventually all of our kitty cages will have a cozy perch for our visiting felines.
Beds ordered through the shelter link will alert Betsy Hallett, shelter manager, and soon after will be delivered directly to the Central Aroostook Humane Society in your name.
A big shout out to my sister Donna who donated not only two kitty beds, but a dog one also!
We have many faithful supporters around Aroostook County and many folks that share their time and talents to help keep our little shelter thriving. We couldn’t do what we do without all of your help and support, so thank you!
We have many beautiful animals that are just waiting for a loving home of their own. Please stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society at 26 Cross Street, Presque Isle, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We’re closed for lunch noon to 12:30 p.m. Please be responsible pet owners by spaying or neutering your pet.
