HOULTON — A new name and new location is in the works for the Five Elements Healing Arts Center.
Linda Rowe, a yoga instructor, said the group has decided to relocate to 28 Market Square, inside the former First National Bank between the Temple Theatre and Key Bank. The group will subsequently change its name to Market Square Wellness.
“We’re re-branding ourselves,” Rowe said. “Our current space is too big for our needs. It was a great experiment for us. We have been here almost six years, and it let us know whether or not we could bring this level of wellness to the community. This space is just too physically large for us to maintain. It’s like we’re losing weight and need new clothes.”
The new location will be located on the first floor of the building, making it more accessible to seniors.
“This is a group we would really like to tap into more for wellness and natural health,” Rowe said. “We created a space for people to come of all different abilities. You can be really fit, or not so fit. You can be young or old. We reach a wide range of capabilities.”
The center’s focus is on natural wellness and health. Group members use a whole body approach to body-mind awareness and we strive to enhance each person’s capacity for self-knowledge and self-care. They offer Mindful Way Yoga (with Rowe), Tai Chi (with Susan Glick and John Lloyd) and Reiki (with Lori Tash and Karen King).
Changing the group’s name was not a difficult decision.
“No one was really attached to the name, and one of us said Market Square Wellness sounded good,” Rowe said. “It tells you where we are and what we do.”
The practices offered work well in conjunction with conventional treatments.
“The influence of the mind in healing is a part of virtually every medical tradition, from the ancient teachings of Ayurveda and Chinese medicine to modern Western medicine or allopathy,” according to the group’s website. “Whether you are looking to maintain your present state of health or choosing to reclaim your health — mental, physical, and spiritual; Market Square Wellness has something good to offer.”
The group has a combined 40 years of health experience with their respective areas of practice.
Preventative maintenance, getting back in shape or recovering from surgery/illness are all about investing in health and well-being, the group’s website states. On-going yoga classes, tai chi classes, qi kung classes, reiki sessions and Ayurveda (a natural whole health system) consultations and more will be offered in their new location.
