ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Maine Community Foundation manages more than 450 scholarship funds that benefit students in every county in Maine.
Community foundation scholarships support students pursuing degrees in music, journalism, teaching, horticulture, technology, the arts and many other fields. They are available for students attending secondary, post-secondary and graduate schools, as well as for adult learners returning to school.
A complete listing of scholarships available for the upcoming school year is now online at the “Scholarships” page of the Maine Community Foundation website, www.mainecf.org. Please note that some scholarships now have an online application.
Maine Community Foundation awarded more than $2 million in scholarships in 2013 to approximately 1,000 Maine students who attend schools in the state, across the country and around the world, including Canada, Scotland and Spain.
“Each scholarship award is a gift of educational opportunity from a Maine Community Foundation donor to present and future generations,” said Meredith Jones, foundation president and CEO.
These funds are established for a variety of reasons, from honoring a family member to carrying on the tradition of “giving back” that helped an individual through college.
