FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The dates for this year’s “Tiger” Basketball Camp have been set.
The girls’ camp will be held June 23-27 and the boys’ camp June 30-July 3. The camp, under the direction of Larry Gardner, is open to boys and girls presently in grades one through eight.
“We are very excited to be able to offer this type of basketball again this year,” Gardner said. “We are including a skills competition similar to the NBA’s All-Star Skill Challenge where players will compete against the clock and each other to perform ball handling, passing and shooting skills. This will allow us to test their skill improvement from the beginning of the week to the end of the week.”
The boys and girls camps will be limited to the first 125 applicants and will be held at the Fort Fairfield High School gyms. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The camp will include breakfast and lunch each day with each participant also receiving a “Tiger” Basketball Camp T-shirt and a camp basketball.
The camp also includes the ending family barbecue, when awards will be presented.
Players will be grouped by age and ability into three divisions: high school, college and NBA/WNBA and will have eight indoor and outdoor courts available to use. The high school division will use shorter baskets and smaller balls while the college and NBA /WNBA divisions will use regulation baskets and balls.
The camp will provide each player with an opportunity to develop his or her basketball skills through drills, games, films and lectures while offering a competitive and fun atmosphere. Each team will play two games a day, with all championship competition to be decided on the final day.
“We are very enthused about being able to offer a camp of this type and feel it will be a big success in developing these players’ basketball skills and have fun as well,” Gardner said.
Registration forms are available online at www.msad20.org as well as at area recreation centers. Those needing more information should contact Gardner at 472-3271 or 473-4055. The camp is on Facebook at “Tiger Basketball Camp.”
