On Thursday, May 15, the Pregnancy Care Centers of Aroostook will hold one walk in three locations at 6:30 p.m. The goal is to recruit sponsored walkers, with funds benefiting services provided by the agency.
It’s simple. Get a sponsor sheet. Ask your friends, neighbors, family or co-workers to sponsor you for $25, $50 or whatever they want to give. Record your sponsors. You can collect the money or get their mailing address and write neatly so PCCA can bill them. Call 554-8396 to request a sponsor sheet. This is a two-mile, police-escorted walk, rain or shine.
If you cannot walk on this date but want to help us out, it’s not a problem. Get a sponsor sheet, raise your funds and walk on your own. You can drop your sponsor sheet and money off at one of the agency’s three offices in Presque Isle, Houlton or Fort Kent.
“Funds raised will go to provide free pregnancy tests, maternity and infants’ clothing, parenting classes, material assistance (diapers, wipes, toiletry items), counseling for women who are seeking healing from a past abortion and our ‘Give Moms Credit’ Program where moms can earn specific baby furniture by attending parenting classes, watching educational videos and completing Bible studies. We also have a ‘Survivor Intervention’ Program which is designed to equip our young people with the tools necessary to face the current pressures they encounter daily. Our desire is to educate women so they can make an informed decision,” said Christie Corey, executive director.
The Pregnancy Care Center of Aroostook is a non-profit, faith-based organization receiving no government funding. The PCC serves approximately 120 new clients each year and has about 900 client contacts per year throughout its three locations. Last year 75 clients enrolled in the Give Moms Credit Program, 38 babies were born, three clients completed the post-abortion counseling finding long-lasting healing.
“This year, we decided to kick off our walk with a ‘Sing for Life’ event to raise awareness and hopefully inspire people to help us out. The Sing for Life was Friday, April 4, at the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church at 7 p.m. At this event, there were special singers, congregational songs, and a Pregnancy Care Center PowerPoint presentation. Sponsor sheets and other walk material were available at the event,” said Corey.
The Presque Isle center has been serving Aroostook County since 1985. The Houlton satellite office has been serving the area for 14 years. In June 2011, a satellite office was opened in Fort Kent. To make a tax-deductible contribution, send it to the main office: PCC, PO Box 1553, Presque Isle, ME 04769or call Corey at 554-8396 for more information.
