Memories of Mom

To the editor:
The term “memories” means different things to different people. As children we remember kind touches and treats. I remember the sweet smells of Mom’s cooking and the offering of a spoon to lick off or a piece of whatever she was making at the time.  These small actions brought with it feelings of love.  These feelings were fleeting at the time as there was always going to be another spoon to enjoy.
During my life there were many offerings of affection from Mom to me. I appreciated them at the time (although, sad to say there were many times when I took them for granted) but once again didn’t dwell on them as” they would always be there”.
Mom aged and the offerings of her affection changed to her sweet smile and kind words. It became time for me to make the memories with Mom.  It became time to make Mom feel the specialness.
I would admonish families to not take for granted their precious memories with their Moms. Make as many memories as you can because all too soon there aren’t any more memories to make.
It is comforting to be able to look back and feel the warmth of fond, loving memories with Mom both the ones that she made and the ones that we as a family made with her.
