Happy Mother’s Day

What Kids Say

Scott Mitchell Johnson talked to children at Fort Fairfield Elementary School

“If you could buy your Mom any gift for Mother’s Day — regardless of the cost — what would you get her and why?”

Tyler Barker
Age: 5
Kindergarten

“I’d give her new [dinner] plates. The plates we have now have crust on them. I’d get her white plates with colored fishies on them, but not the real fish we fish for … just pictures of fish.”

Liam Giberson
Age: 6
First grade

“I would get her a bracelet. It would be kind of metal … probably silver, and it would have red and green jewels on it. I’d get her one because she doesn’t have much bracelets left. I don’t know where they went; maybe they broke.”

Haylee Young
Age: 8
Second grade

“I would probably get her some hair gel because she likes to use stuff like that in her hair. I’d also get her body wash and perfume and put them all in a basket for her. I’d hide it from her so she wouldn’t see it before Mother’s Day. I’ve got a really good hiding place.”

Althea Warne
Age: 9
Third grade

“I’d get her the best book in the world — the Bible. Me, my brother, and my Dad all like to read, so I’d want her to read with us. She has a Bible at home, but I want to get her a special one. It would be special because it would be from me, plus it would be newer.”

Nicholas Clickman
Age: 9
Fourth grade

“I would get her a new car. It would be a Jeep — one with wipers on the back. I would get a white and black one like her old one, so it would look like we had that car for a long time. We all miss the old Jeep. We got rid of it because it was getting too old and it didn’t drive right. It was broken.”

Hunter Perkins
Age: 11
Fifth grade

“I would get my Mother a ring that would have her birthstone (emerald) on it. It would also have my birthstone (garnet) and my Dad’s (peridot). My Mom really likes jewelry. That would be a good way to remember all of us. I’d also get a bouquet of red roses, which are her favorite.”
