While most communities closed out their financial books at town meetings in March, others waited until the end of April to hold their annual gatherings.

Voters in Danforth went to the polls April 25 to cast their ballots for local representatives on the town’s board of selectmen and school board. Charlie Prosser was elected to a one-year term on the board of selectmen with 44 votes, while Mark Crone received 37. There were 15 write-ins.
Everett Lee was elected to a two-year term on the town’s board with 50 votes. There were 32 write-ins.
Evelyn Kinney was elected to a three-year seat on the school board with 89 votes, with four write-ins. Theresa Sheldon was chosen to fill an unexpired term on the school board with 83 votes.
The next morning at the annual town meeting, residents approved a budget of $291,978 to be raised from property taxes. That figure is up from last year’s amount of $206,676 (or about 4 percent). That figure does not include the school or county tax amounts.
In neighboring Orient, a group of about 20 residents and five non-residents turned out for the annual town meeting April 30 at the town hall. In voting from April 29, incumbent Victor Alexander was re-elected to a three-year term on the town’s board of selectmen with 20 votes; Barbara Sharpe was elected to a three-year seat on the school committee with 20 votes; and Donna Foley was elected to a one-year term on the school committee with 20 votes.
Voters approved a $281,415 municipal budget, which is an increase of $2,334 (less than 1 percent) over last year. That figure does not include the school or county tax amounts.
