WASHBURN, Maine — A motorcyclist was injured early on April 30 when he struck a deer on Route 164 north of the Washburn District High School.
“The accident was reported to us around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Taylor Dobson, 19, of Washburn, was traveling westbound on his way home when he struck a deer, causing him to lose control of the bike. He and the bike ended up in the ditch. The deer, which remained in the road, was killed by the impact,” said Chief Roy Guidrey, of the Washburn Police Department.
Officer Luke Blackstone, of the WPD, was in charge of the investigation.
“Dobson was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. His motorcycle sustained considerable damage in the crash,” said Guidrey.
No additional information on Dobson’s condition was available at presstime.
Now that the snow is gone, Guidrey warns motorists to use caution, since wildlife is on the move this time of year. Use high beams whenever possible when driving at night and watch for animals in roadways and ditches.
