He graduated from MCI and went to the University of Maine for a year and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After returning home, he went to work at the former Sal-Mor cattle farm in Masardis. He worked for them for several years and then went to work as a forklift operator at the J. Paul Levesque Lumber mill where he was employed for 25 years. Fred loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and 4-wheeler. Raising beef for family and friends was one of his hobbies he truly loved as he was always a farmer at heart. He enjoyed spending time at camp on SquaPan especially when the whole family was there with him. He also was Betty’s second in command at the greenhouse assisting her with whatever needed to be done.
Fred’s family was the most important thing in his life and he enjoyed going to all his grandchildren’s events. His other love was his faithful dog Jackson, who was his constant companion and best friend.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty (Rafford) Haley of Masardis; two sons, Fred Haley Jr. and his wife, Jessica and their daughters, Paige, Kasey and Addyson of Mapleton, and Shawn Haley and son, Dylan of Portage; two sisters, Claire Gill of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Gloria Kilcollins of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews.
