What a busy few weeks it has been at Houlton Humane Society. We have done a number of adoptions, and had so many visitors … every day is busy. We love it this way. We do, however, have three dogs, who despite all the adoptions, sit here day after day, with no interest. So let me take this time to tell you about Dexter, Feebee and Neeson.
First off, we have Dexter. Dexter has been with us for about five weeks. He is a 2-year-old, mix of some sort. We are thinking, best guess, a black lab mix. He has the sweetest face ever, with a heart of gold. He is laid back, does great with any dog we put him out with and is good with cats also. The only issue is he does have some separation anxiety. He would do well in a home with people who are home a lot, as he doesn’t like to be alone too much. He does better home with another dog, but would have the best life possible with a family who is home a lot. He loves kids and enjoys going for walks and being outdoors. He is neutered and microchipped, with all of his vaccines up to date. He is tired of looking through the cage doors, waiting for the right family. He is hoping they are reading this now.
Next up is Feebee. She is a beautiful girl, part boxer, who has the energy to match. She is about a year old, spayed and microchipped, with all her vaccines up to date. She loves other animals and is great with older kids. We say older because she does jump and she needs some training on that. She is very smart and learns quickly, with the right person, who wants to work with her. She is a sweet girl, who loves her time outside in the pen, with other dogs, running and playing. This girl is still a puppy. She doesn’t want to grow up in a cage. She wants a family, with lots of time and energy, who can give this sweet girl what she wants most … love.
Last, but certainly not least, is Neeson. This poor guy has been with us the longest. He came to us back in February and we cannot figure out why he is still here. He is a boxer/pitbull mix, who is a huge baby. He’s neutered and microchipped. At first, he was very unsure of other dogs, but we at HHS know every dog wants a friend — it just takes time and reassurance. We are happy to say, he loves other dogs now. He is great with kids, loves to be outside or is just as happy inside with a family, laying on the floor with him. He is about 3 years old and we think, very handsome! He sees people coming into the dog room every day, walking by him and we can tell he is sad. He just wants someone to love him and give him the life he deserves.
We love these three dogs. We have grown very attached. But we would love it more if they got to leave us and live the life we know they need and want. They are amazing companions, who all with some patience, time and love, would make the best family members. Stop by and see them Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You may be the one they have been waiting for!
