This year’s All-state basketball team was named and two local athletes were among the honorees. Houlton’s Kyle Bouchard was Bangor Daily News First-Team, while Hodgdon’s Chris Hudson was Third-Team.
Both community schools have had a fair share of players making the All-state teams through the years. Coach Terry Spurling researched the award winners for each school.
Houlton High School: First-Team, Paul Davenport, 1956; Al Cowperthwaite, 1972; Mark Socoby, 2004 and Bouchard, 2014.
Second-Team, Lucas Ritchie, 1998; Frank DiStefano, 2000 and Bouchard, 2013.
Third-Team, Willie Varney, 1967; Gerry Dwyer, 1968; Terry Cummings, 1987; Eric Cowperthwaite, 1991 and Willie Sleeper, 1999.
Hodgdon High School, Second-Team, Matt Oliver, 1987; two-time winner Sam Henderson, 1995 and 1996; and Tyler Putnam, 2002.
Third-Team, Duane Williams, 1977 and Hudson, 2104.
This summer both Bouchard and Hudson are playing on the Maine Athletic Club (MAC) Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball squad, along with Dane Savage of Caribou andd several southern Maine players.
