Merrill to hold its third annual canoe race on Saturday

The third annual canoe race will be held Saturday at Merrill Millstream Park, with Pirate games for the children from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Race registration will be at 9 a.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 per paddler, which includes a lunch and participation gift. The award ceremony will be at 1 p.m. at the park. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  including burgers, hot dogs, baked beans and drinks. A plate is $5.
There are six race categories: open class, a race team of more than two paddlers or a craft not classified as a canoe or kayak; K-2, a two-person kayak, males, females or mixed; K-1L, one-person kayak longer than 13 feet, four inches; K-1S, one-person kayak 13 feet, four inches and under; C2-Mixed, canoe with a female and male; C2-M, canoe with two males; C2-W, canoe with two females; and high school, canoe any length, both participants must be 16-18 years old.
Last year, the race had 22 paddlers.
