Tigers have strong veteran leadership

    The softball season has begun for the Fort Fairfield Tigers, and coach Jamie Selfridge is looking to a strong core of athletes to lead the team.
“Alyssa Dougherty has been named our captain as she is a strong leader for our team as well as a great starting outfielder,” Selfridge said. “We will be looking to our senior pitcher Jordann Coiley to give us a strong presence from the mound (and) to Logan Bubar, Alexis Coiley and Autumn Parady to give us the run support we will need to win ballgames.”
The team has great depth this season, with one freshman, five sophomores, one junior, and six seniors on the roster, giving the Tigers a good balance of underclassmen and upperclassmen for future seasons.
“While we will graduate many players this season, we also have a large group of eighth-graders that will be joining us next year,” she said. “We will rely on our sophomore group to be leaders in the future.”
The starting lineup has yet to be determined, with the roster’s depth allowing a variety of configurations to be made before a final starting nine is chosen.
“We are fortunate to be 11 or 12 players deep in potential starters, [and] we will work to find the best fit for all our girls, and the team in general,” Selfridge said.
Along with Bubar, Parady, Jordann Coiley and Alexis Coiley, the roster includes seniors Lindsay Blaisdell, Janae Libby, Alyssa Dougherty and Madison Watson; junior Megan Jellison; sophomores Sarah Watt, Taylor Churchill, Teresa Maynard and Autumn Parady; and freshman Sydney McShea.
According to Selfridge, the Tigers are working on becoming “smarter, more aggressive players” and are looking forward to being competitive and advancing in the playoffs this season.
