Caribou is scheduled to host the Regional Singles Tennis Tournament Saturday. The top competitors will move on to the state tourney to be held later this month. The event begins at 9 a.m. at the Caribou High School courts.
The Vikings had a busy week of regular season matches last week. The latest one took place Saturday, with Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor making the trip north and recording identical 4-1 victories over the Vikings.
The Caribou girls fell to 3-3 with the loss. Clara Collins pulled off the lone win for the Vikings by stopping Emily Cough in third singles, 8-3. Erin Patton and Makayla Bouchard were both defeated in their singles matches, while the doubles teams of Bria Judd-Conner Spencer and Taylor Belanger-Brittany Dickinson were beaten in close matches.
The Viking boys’ record also evened at 3-3 following their loss. Michael Marquis managed to earn Caribou’s only triumph as he was an 8-3 winner over Teryn Miller in their No. 2 singles match. Brendan Cyr and Ethan Plourde were both beaten in other singles matches. Austin Cheplic and Dustin Coty lost in No. 1 doubles, while Caribou had to forfeit its second doubles match.
On Friday, Caribou was swept at home by Fort Kent. The girls suffered a 5-0 defeat, while the boys were stopped, 3-2. Marquis and Plourde won the boys’ singles matches. Caribou’s forfeit loss in No. 2 doubles was the difference in the outcome.
A day earlier, the Vikings were victorious in a match played at Madawaska. The girls rolled to a 5-0 win. Patton, Bouchard and Collins had little trouble in their singles matches. Judd and Spencer also dominated in first doubles, while Belanger and Dickinson won by forfeit.
The boys pulled off a 3-2 win thanks to singles victories by Marquis and Plourde and a doubles win, via forfeit, by Dustin and Dylan Coty.
