High school baseball, softball game recaps

The high school baseball and softball season is rolling along despite intermittent sun, wind and some chilly temperatures that are lingering after a long winter.
Game recaps for the week are as follows:
 EG/GHCA 2, Hodgdon 12 — Hodgdon freshman right-hander Dillan Buzzell threw a complete game with nine strikeouts and two walks against East Grand/GHCA on Monday in Hodgdon. Buzzell helped his own cause from the plate with a home run.

The Hawks led 1-0 and broke the game open with a 10-run second inning. Anthony Mazzacco collected three singles for the winners.
For EG/GHCA, Logan Crone paced the team with a single and scored a run, while Aaron Holmes and Oliver Wyatt each singled.
 Washburn 22, EG/GHCA 3 — Last Friday, the score was tied 3-all after the first before the Beavers used a 12-run second inning to race away from the visitors.
The Beavers are 5-0 on the year with this win.
    Hodgdon 27, CAHS 10 — The Panthers were ahead 10-6 after four innings, but Hodgdon erupted for  21 runs in the top of the fifth to cruise.
Sam Horton, Tyler Sherman and Ethan Fink each doubled, while Jimmy Buzzell tripled for the winners.
For Mars Hill, Spencer Garrison, Jacob Canney and Connor Todd each doubled, while Nick Dominique tripled.
Katahdin 15, Hodgdon 5 — In Stacyville last Thursday, the Cougars’ Shey Lane struck out six in five innings, as Katahdin picked up the win. T.J. Young hit a two-run triple for the winners.
    Schenck 13, Katahdin 8 — At East Millinocket Monday, Tyson Porter stroked three singles for the Cougars, who slipped to 1-5 on the season.
For Schenck, Tyler Powers singled three times and drove in two runs.
 Hodgdon 18, Katahdin 9 — The Hawks were led by seniors in their win last Wednesday at home. Sherman singled, doubled and tripled to bring in four runs, while scoring four runs. Mazzacco doubled twice and singled. Horton doubled and singled for the winners.
For Katahdin, Dakota Reinhart reached base three times, while Young doubled and singled.
 SACS 15, Ashland 4 — The Warriors scored in each inning of Monday’s game in Ashland, holding a 13-0 lead in the fourth. The Hornets drove in four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Warriors had 12 hits in the game as senior Will McGary went 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs, while Gage LeFay and Parker Walker each collected two hits to drive in two runs apiece; Trent Cullinan slapped a two-run triple and pitched three innings of two-hit ball.
The Warriors are 5-0 on the season.
 SACS 18, EG/GHCA 8 — Last Tuesday in Dyer Brook, the Warriors outhit their opponents 17-10 to pick up the win. Josh Perrin doubled and singled twice, while Nate Lilley and LeFay each singled three times. Walker tripled and singled for the winners.
For EG/GHCA, Holmes and James Shurmann each singled three times while Crone tripled and singled.
   Houlton 16, Madawaska 3 (first game) — In doubleheader action last Saturday in Houlton, the Shiretowners overpowered Madawaska in the opener. The Shires trailed 3-0 after two innings, but put together a seven-run third and nine-run fourth to take the win.
Houlton used a 13-hit attack led by Ethan Bouchard who had three hits, followed by Jake Carter, Nick Botting and Billy Phillips with two hits each. Noah Holmes, Gage Hunt and Botting each drove in three runs in the game.
    Houlton 21, Madawaska 1  (second game) — The Shires continued to roll in the second game, as they used a 17-hit attack to take the game in five innings.
Botting, Bouchard, Holmes, Phillips and Thomas Prescott each collected two hits, while Jake Drew poked three hits for four RBIs.
 Houlton 3, Presque Isle 0 — The Shiretowners’ Ryan Dee threw a complete game shutout, striking out three and scattering four hits to lead Houlton to the win.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Houlton scored all three of their runs.
Carter led the offense with two hits, while Botting, Carter and Dee each had RBIs.
In girls’ action, the following are recaps of games played.
 EG/GHCA 9, Hodgdon 2 —  Rylee Warman, Allie McEwen, Sarah Stoddard and Makayla Watson each singled twice to lift their cooperative team to the win. McEwen picked up the win off the mound, as well.
   Washburn 11, EG/GHCA 10 — Last Friday, the Beavers led 11-3 after the third, but the EG/GHCA squad ran off seven runs over the last four innings to nearly pull off the upset.
Chelsea Winiarski led the EG/GHCA team with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate.
EG/GHCA 5, Machias 2 — Last Thursday in Machias, East Grand’s McEwen allowed two runs, while striking out two to help her team to the win. Winiarski singled three times and Adreanna Phillips added a base hit.
Losing pitcher Kate Whitney of Machias struck out 13.
 CAHS 26, Hodgdon 4 — The Lady Panthers took a 9-1 first-inning lead and continued to build upon it to take a lopsided win last Friday over visiting Hodgdon.
Whitnie Bradbury doubled and singled three times to bring in five runs, while Karli Levesque tripled, doubled and singled twice for four RBIs. Carly Grass singled twice and doubled to plate three runs for CAHS.
For Hodgdon, Tiana McEwen doubled and singled twice to bring in two runs.
 Katahdin 10, Schenck 10 (second game) — In the second game of a doubleheader in East Millinocket, Schenck scored in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, which ended in a tie, as the game was called due to darkness.
The Lady Cougars led 7-3 after three and took a one-run lead in the top of the sixth, 10-9.
Georgia Landry led Katahdin with two hits and two RBIs, while Lizzy Knowles had a base hit and drove in a run.
  Katahdin 2, Schenck 3 (first game) — In the first game of the doubleheader, Schenck led 3-1 after the third to hold on for the one-run win, as Katahdin picked up their final run in the top of the seventh.
Landry paced Katahdin with two hits and scored a run. The Lady Cougars are 3-3-1.
 Hodgdon 14, Katahdin 13 — At Hodgdon last Wednesday, Rachel Harmon led the Lady Hawks with three singles, while Jessi Tracey and Christine Wallace each singled twice for the winners.
For Katahdin, Courtney Stevens, Merissa McDonald and Emily Knowles each had two base hits.
 SACS 5, Ashland 24 — The Lady Warriors got behind early and could not rebound, as Ashland opened the game with a 12-run first inning.
Chloe Raymond smacked a two-run triple, while Cassidy Lyons and Cheyenne Dawes each singled. Dawes also had two RBIs.
   EG/GHCA 14, SACS 4 — At Dyer Brook, EG/GHCA pitcher McEwen threw a five-hitter, striking out 10. Stoddard keyed the offense with a triple and three RBIs, while Jenna Carver, McEwen, and Winiarski each doubled and singled.
For SACS, Jess Tucker and Kennedi Smith each doubled.
 Houlton 10, Madawaska 15  (first game) — The Lady Shires held a 9-3 lead in the third, but watched it dissolve, as the Lady Owls outscored the Houlton girls 12-1 over the last four innings of the game.
Elizabeth Ward and Morgan Grant each keyed Houlton’s offense with three hits.
 Houlton 15, Madawaska 9 (second game) — The Houlton girls bounced back in the second game not to be denied, as they scored in each inning. Ward led the way with a triple and two hits, while Emma Drew and Makayla McGuire each had two hits. Victoria Holmes picked up the win, allowing six hits.
 Presque Isle 13, Houlton 5 — The Lady Shires trailed 9-5 after the fourth, but could not put together any more runs over the last three innings of play.
Emma Peterson and McGuire each had two hits for Houlton.
